Research focus

What are we concerned to?
Molecular spectroscopy comprises a broad range of spectral methods which can be used for qualitative, quantitative as well as for structural analysis of molecules. Methods of vibrational spectroscopy, including infrared spectrometry (FTIR), Raman scattering and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD), and NMR spectrometry are the main topics of our research group. They are supplemented by absorption spectrometry, molecular spectrofluorimetry and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectrometry in the visible and ultraviolet range.
We pay attention to biospectroscopy, both on the level of analysis of natural biological materials and on the level of model systems of interacting mostly chiral biomolecules. We study plant materials with the aim to develop methods suitable pro environmental monitoring, as well as animal tissues considering biomedicinal applications. For individual types of experiments, we design and construct novel types of cells and other accessories. Besides the measurement techniques we pay interest to the development of spectral data processing using modern multivariate chemometric methods.
We collaborate deeply with the other groups of the department, in particular with the group of molecular recognition. We concentrate on the structural analysis of layers deposited on solid-state supports. Furthermore, we study intra- and inter-molecular interactions, formation of complexes and associates. That means, we study generally the structure of supramolecular systems, especially for chiral molecules.
