Podstata a cíl práce

Many key mammalian genes are regulated by endogenous retrovirus elements (ERVs). These include genes involved in immunity and also genes important for the fate decision in embryonic stem cells (see references for examples). No such cases have yet been reported in birds. In this work, we would perform computational screens aimed mainly at chicken genome to uncover this novel type of gene regulation.

Náplň činnosti studenta

RNAseq assembly, search for genes that start with avian ERV sequences. Update of chicken database of endogenous retroviral elements. Comparison of both databases to uncover genes that start in ERVs.
