The paper summarizes current state of the utilisation of alternative gaseous fuels – LPG, CNG, LNG and hydrogen – in the trasport sector in the world as well as in the Czech Republic. Surveys of main gaseous fuel sources and vehicle technologies together with basic statistical data concerning fuel consumption and operating vehicle numbers are also introduced.
