The review discusses the current state of application of basic dyes in analytical chemistry and the most important trends for further research. Basic dyes remain one of the most effective analytical reagents, especially for extractive spectrophotometric determination of microamounts of elements. High sensitivity, selectivity as well as simplicity and speed make the methods indispensable in analysis of high-purity materials, environmental samples, semi- and superconductor materials, and others.
