Lignite is the system of a coalified matter with the remaining parts of phytomass. Lignite is not only important as a source of energy but has a variety of other applications, e.g., as a sorption material. The sorption properties after certain mechanical and thermal treatment are similar in some respects (e.g., in maximum sorption capacity) to the sorption properties of charcoal.
