In studying publications mentioning the utilization of polarography/voltammetry in various branches of medicine or pharmacy in the last five years (ca. 2000), it was found that a certain focus of their applications is in cardiovascular and oncological disciplines. In the former field, it is particularly the release of nitrogen oxide in studies of the vasodilation effect of drugs. In oncology, the oxygen partial pressure in tumours is measured voltammetrically in vivo.
