The accuracy of iodine determination in biological samples by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ED), after preliminary alkaline dry ashing, was verified by analysis of reference materials as well as by good agreement with the results obtained in interlaboratory validation of a spectrophotometric method based on the Sandell-Kolthoff reaction. The HPLC method is suitable for mineralizates containing not less than 4.55 ng I/ ml. The method was used for determination of iodine in milk and meat as well as in milk and meat products.
